Rise and Fall of Mithila Kingdom

Bounded by the Koshi River in the east, the Gandaki River in the west the Ganges in the south, and by the foothills of the Himalayas in the north, since the beginning of history, there existed an ancient divine kingdom in parts of modern Nepal and India. he kingdom was called Videha, known later famously as Mithila. Which became the birthplace of Princess Sita and his father Shirdhwaj Janak. The birthplace of many great persons, a creation venue for many knowledge and sciences a source of art and creativity was once a very powerful kingdom but today is continuously being a forgotten history.

It is said that Madhava Vidhegha was the first king of this land who came by crossing the Gandaki river with his teacher Gautama Rahugana And established the kingdom Videgha. Later King Mithi was born as one of his dynasties. According to the ancient stories King Mithi’s Father- King Nimi had died young without any offspring. And after his death, the Rishis there created a young boy from the dead body of Mithi. Thus, because of being born out of his father’s body, King Mithi was titled Janaka. And all the kings of his dynasty were called Videha Janaka or simply Janaka thereafter. From Mithi’s name, this kingdom was named Mithila, and its capital was called Janakpur. The history of the Mithila kingdom goes from the Vedic age to the modern time period. This part of the land is rich with culture and traditions, spiritual knowledge. Mithila art is famous even today. Many festivals and celebrations have been started in this place. Maithali language is praised by many for its peaceful and soft vibrating nature. In this ancient land, many spiritual practices, philosophers, artists, scientists, and teachers have been born. Sadhu Yajnavalkya who wrote yajnavalkya smriti which exists in the form of life-Dharma-related texts of Hinduism Rishi Gautam who established different philosophies and literature Both of them birth occurred in this place. Kapil Muni who established different counting and different science-related knowledge was also born in this place. which are considered one of the popular Rishi in Hinduism. The Son of King Janak, Sirdhoj popular for King and Rishi, and Janak’s daughter Seeta’s birthplace also occurred in this place.

Raja Sirdhoj Janak was not only considered asking but was also a Budha Purus. He was known as the king sacrificing all his physical wealth, assets, and love for many things in different places. it is said that he wants to leave the kingdom after attaining spiritual knowledge. But his teacher Ashtavakra reminded him that the Budha king is good for the citizen welfare for not leaving the kingdom for their betterment. Therefore, he didn’t leave the kingdom.

According to Ramayan, in King Sirdhoj Janak’s daughter Seeta’s wedding ceremony, Ram dashra putra from Ayodhya lifted the Shivas Dhaanus(bow) Then, Ram and Seeta wedding occurred on Janakpur. Later, Janak’s Daughter Seeta is popular and accepted as Lord all over Hindu Religion for her work. It is said that the Janak dynasty’s last king was very bad. Due to this, under the lead of Acharya Muni, his citizen made him throw off the throne. Then made a system where the rulers are chosen by the people. This system was followed for 100 years and continued until the Magad dynasty attacked. Mithi history is the prestigious history for all Nepalese people. This place has a lot of inspiring history from which Nepal can even learn today the direction and flow from it. Even having, some care about Mithila Painting and languages Nepal and Mithila people themselves are slowly losing their main culture, literature, and mainstream culture.
